Configure custom shop navigation

Beta

Use custom shop navigation when the standard shop pages are not enough for the customer journey. You can add links to shop pages, campaign pages, legal information, partner sites, or other customer-facing resources.

Custom navigation items appear after the built-in shop page links in the desktop header, mobile menu, and overflow menu.

Before you start

You need back-office access to Shops and permission to edit the shop's Page Builder.

Confirm:

  • which pages or external URLs customers should reach from the header
  • which label should be shown in each shop language
  • whether the link should be a single header item or part of a dropdown
  • whether the destination is a shop page or an external URL

Open Custom navigation items

  1. In the back office, open Shops.
  2. Select the shop.
  3. Open Page Builder.
  4. Open Navigation.
  5. Find Custom navigation items.
  1. Select Add item.
  2. Keep the item set to Single link.
  3. Enter the customer-facing label.
  4. Choose the link type.
  5. For an internal page, select the shop page.
  6. For an external or relative URL, enter the URL.
  7. Save the navigation settings.

External URLs open in a new browser tab. Relative URLs and internal shop page links keep customers in the same shop.

Add a dropdown

Use a dropdown when several related links should share one top-level label.

  1. Select Add item.
  2. Change the item type to Dropdown.
  3. Enter the dropdown label.
  4. Add child links.
  5. Choose each child link destination.
  6. Save the navigation settings.

Dropdowns support one level of child links. Do not use a dropdown as a child of another dropdown.

Reorder or remove items

Drag items in the custom navigation list to change their order. You can also use the move controls when dragging is not convenient.

Remove a custom item when it should no longer appear in the shop header or mobile menu. Removing a navigation item does not delete the destination page.

Limits

Each shop can have up to 20 custom top-level navigation items. Each dropdown can have up to 15 child links.

Keep the header short enough to scan on desktop. Long navigation automatically uses the overflow menu, but customers should still see the most important destinations first.

Check the shop

After saving:

  1. Open the online shop on desktop.
  2. Check that the links appear after the standard page links.
  3. Open any dropdown and check each child link.
  4. Open the shop on a mobile-sized screen.
  5. Confirm the same custom items appear in the mobile menu.
