Require a customer account for membership purchases

A membership belongs to a customer record. Member prices apply online only when the member signs in to that customer's account. Use this article to make online buyers sign in or create an account before they buy a membership. Customers can still browse and fill their cart before signing in.
Decide which products need an account
| Product | Customer account required |
|---|---|
| Membership during ticket validity | Yes, automatically. |
| Another product whose benefits need the account | Yes, when you turn on the account requirement for it. |
| Permanent customer classification only | No, unless you turn on the account requirement. |
| Annual pass used only with its ticket | No. Guests can buy a pass that works entirely by its ticket. |
Turn on the account requirement
- In the back office, open Services > Products and select the product.
- Open Online display.
- For a product with Membership during ticket validity, the page shows that a customer account is required automatically. No further setting is needed.
- For another product, turn on Require a customer account in the online shop.
- Select Update.
An account requirement that you turned on stays on if you later remove the membership benefit. Turn it off separately when it is no longer needed.
What customers see at checkout
When the cart contains a product that requires an account, the customer must sign in or create an account before submitting an inquiry, making a reservation, or completing the order. This also applies to free memberships, orders paid entirely with vouchers, invoices, and payment on site.
- New customers enter their contact details, a password, and the password confirmation in the checkout form, accept the required consent, and select Create account and confirm order, or the corresponding inquiry or reservation action. The account is created and checkout continues without a separate registration step. If the account cannot be created, the order is not submitted.
- Existing customers select Sign in. Switching between signing in and creating an account keeps the contact details already entered.
If the total changes after the account is created, customers review the updated order summary before continuing. If checkout asks them to sign in again, their cart and entered details remain available.
Continue an order from a booking link
When a customer continues an order through a booking link, they sign in or create an account and then select Link this cart to my account if it is offered. If the order already belongs to an account, they must use that account. Sign in with a different account switches accounts. Creating another account does not move an existing membership; customers who cannot access the owner's account contact you.
Sales by staff and payments
- Staff can sell membership products in the back office or at the POS without the customer signing in to the online shop. Sell them to the member's customer record so the membership is attached to it.
- Paying an unchanged, already approved order through an invoice link does not require a new sign-in and does not move the membership to the person paying.
- Scanning an existing pass for admission does not require the customer to sign in.
