Customize online shop wording
Use Text & translations in a shop to change interface wording such as buttons, account messages, and cart labels. Changes apply to that shop and the selected language. You need permission to edit the shop.
Product names, page content, email templates, and legal documents have their own editors. Some protected interface messages cannot be changed here.
Change a message
- Open your shop in the back office and select Text & translations.
- Choose Language. This selects the customer-facing language you are editing.
- Search for the wording or its translation key. Use Status or Area to narrow the list.
- Select a message. Compare Current default with Your wording.
- Edit Your wording and check Example preview.
- Select Save wording.
- Wait for the publication status, then use Open shop preview to check the message in context.
Saving starts publication immediately. There is no separate draft or publish step. A customer who already has a page open may need to reload it.
If a default is not translated into the selected language, the editor shows its English fallback. Your saved wording still applies only to the language you selected.
Keep placeholders and plural rules
Some messages contain placeholders such as {count}. Type @ to choose one of the message's placeholders, or select a placeholder button below the editor. Placeholders appear as chips and are replaced with the customer's actual information in the shop. Keep the required placeholders in your wording.
For messages with plural rules, edit the text inside each branch while keeping the branch names, braces, and placeholders. The preview uses example values; check the real message in the shop as well. Invalid or incompatible formatting cannot be saved.
Format a message
Messages that support formatting show a toolbar for bold, _italic_ and underlined text. Use paragraphs or line breaks to separate the text. The example preview shows the formatted result with sample placeholder values.
You can change the wording of an existing link, but its destination must stay unchanged. Links required by the message cannot be removed or replaced. Plain messages do not support formatting, and protected consent messages remain read-only.
Review messages after updates
Use Status to find messages that need attention:
| Status | Meaning and next step |
|---|---|
| Using default | The shop uses the standard wording. |
| Customized | Your wording overrides the default. |
| Default changed | The standard wording changed. Your wording still applies. Compare the previous and current defaults, then save or restore the default. |
| Needs updating | Your saved wording no longer fits the message's formatting requirements, or the message is now protected. The shop uses the current default. Update editable wording or restore the default. |
| No longer used | The message has been removed. The saved wording is retained for reference and can be reset. |
Restore the standard wording
Select a customized message, choose Restore default, and confirm. The shop returns to the current standard wording, including future changes to that default.
Resolve a save or publication problem
If another user changed the shop's wording while you were editing, saving is blocked and your unsaved text remains in the editor. Copy anything you want to keep, select Reload, and confirm Discard changes. Review the latest saved wording before editing again.
If publication fails, the wording remains saved. Use Retry publication, then check the status and the shop. If publication is taking longer than expected, use Reload to check its status.
